Optional: only fill these if you collect real user reviews.

Why it matters

Earn the star rating that makes your review stand out in Google

When your review earns a star rating in Google’s results, it stands out and pulls more clicks than the plain blue links around it. Those stars come from structured data, the schema markup that tells Google this page reviews a product and what you rated it. Without it, Google has to guess, and usually shows nothing.

Writing that JSON-LD by hand is fiddly and easy to get wrong, and one bad field means no rich result. This generator builds valid Product review schema for you: enter the product, your rating and a few details, and copy a clean block straight into your post.

How it works

How to use the Schema Generator

1

Enter the product and your rating

Add the product name, your score out of 5, and optionally the brand, a short verdict and an image.

2

Generate the markup

The tool assembles valid Product and Review JSON-LD, formatted and ready to use.

3

Paste it into your post

Drop the script block into a Custom HTML block in the review, then confirm it with Google’s Rich Results Test.

Tips & insights

  • Only rate what you actually reviewed. The rating must be your genuine editorial score for the product on that page. Google penalises fake or self-serving ratings.
  • Use a single author rating for an editorial review. AggregateRating is for many real user reviews you’ve collected, so don’t invent an aggregate to game the stars.
  • One reviewed item per page. For a roundup of ten products, Google won’t show stars for the list. Give each product its own review page, or mark up the single best pick.
  • Validate before you publish. Paste the URL into Google’s Rich Results Test. Valid markup isn’t a guarantee of stars, but invalid markup guarantees none.
  • Match the visible content. The rating and product in your schema must appear on the page. Hidden or mismatched markup can earn a manual action.

Frequently asked questions

What is review schema?
Review schema is structured data (in JSON-LD) that tells search engines a page reviews a specific product and what rating it gave. It’s what lets Google show star ratings under your result.
Will this get me star ratings in Google?
It makes you eligible. Google decides whether to show stars based on your content quality, the markup’s validity, and its own algorithms. Valid schema is necessary but not a guarantee.
What’s the difference between Review and AggregateRating?
A Review with reviewRating is one reviewer’s score (yours, for an editorial review). AggregateRating summarises many real reviews as an average and a count. Use the aggregate only if you genuinely collect user reviews.
Where do I put the code?
Inside the review page, typically in a Custom HTML block or your theme’s head. It doesn’t need to be visible; search engines read it in the page source.
Can I use it on a roundup or “best of” post?
Review stars are for a single reviewed item. On a multi-product roundup Google generally won’t show stars for the list, so give standout products their own review pages instead.
Is fake or exaggerated markup risky?
Yes. Ratings that don’t match your real content, or self-serving aggregates, can trigger a Google manual action that removes all your rich results. Keep it honest.
Do I still need the plugin if I use this?
This generates markup for one product. ProductReview’s review and rating boxes output their schema automatically for every product you display, so you’re not hand-coding it on every post.
